South Midlands Area Championships Hereford Results 2012 Updated 6th Febuary 2011 (Corrected Results)

Well done to everyone that took part today, with all the snow around the uk. This did not stop members of the West Midlands Tae Kwon Do, briging back 6 awards.

This just goes to show the true sprit with in the club.

4th Dans for Lisa and Kara

Finally West Midlands Tae Kwon Do , would like to congratulate Lisa Brown and Kara Fisher on getting their 4th Dan’s certification at the contest.

Kara Fisher was one of the very first female pioneer students at the Kidderminster Club, with in the West Midlands Tae Kwon Do Clubs.. Helping many other students over the years. Helping them to progress to higher grades, and even Black belt Dan grades. We are proud to see Kara become a Black Belt 4th Dan for all her efforts and training.

5 Members of Bewdley TAGB, plus 1 from Hagley and one from Dudley schools fought bravely in the Midlands Championships this weekend in Kettering Arena.  James Doohan-Smith, Georgia Doohan-Smith, Lewis Heath,  Jivean Clair,  Alex Page, Tom-Anthony Smith,  and Will Brown.

This annual regional tournament was first designed for the Midlands, but the standard of the fighters has brought in some national competitors from Scotland and Wales in recent years.  This Sunday was no different and the Arena was packed with excited crowds and competitors.  Despite the high standard, our team brought back 6 trophies for West Midlands TKD!

Among them, James “The Destroyer” Doohan-Smith, has become affectionately named, for his ability to flatten one opponent after the next.  He is absolutely fearless and to top that he feels no pain. Iit was no great surprise to us that James sailed through round after round against evenly matched opponents.  The pint-sized powerhouse standing at only 121cm tall took the Gold in the Boys Green Belt Tiny Tots Sparring Division with barley a point against him.

Not to be out shone, Georgia Doohan-Smith, James’ older sister and our resident master of precision also took gold in her sparring division Girls Blue Belt PeeWee-(up to 137cm) but also took the Bronze medal in her patterns division.  She demonstrated expert skill and power as she performed a complex routine of techniques to the judges against many other girls.

Also victorious yesterday was Alex Page who took Gold in the Men’s Green Belt Light Weight Sparring, and Tom Smith who took Silver in the Men’s Blue Belt Middle Weight Sparring, and also joined 2 others from his division to fight again in the Tag Team Sparring and again won a second Silver medal for his Hagley Club.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
SPECTATOR TICKETS:

Please remember spectator tickets must be purchased in advance as we expect a sell out event. Tell your instructor how many you require.

COMPETITORS:

Your competition form with your photo needs to be sent in as soon as possible, to enable us to produce your ID card and your competition number and to allocate your competition area in advance of the championships. The closing date of 1st AUGUST will be strictly enforced for this event, and any entry form sent in without an up to date license number will be returned in all cases, and remember only the NEW International doboks or normal TAGB doboks can be worn at this event.

OFFICIALS.

Only qualified officials will be used at this event, you need to send in NOW your application form with your photo, so your ID can be produced. Once we have the correct amount of officials required we will be closing entry and allocating the squares you will be working on. Thank you in advance for your help.

ACCOMODATION.

Anyone experiencing difficulty in finding accommodation in Telford, there is now further information on the TAGB website about alternative places to stay in and around Telford.

GRAND MASTER C.K. CHOI

GM C.K. Choi will be attending these championships as our guest and will be presenting the trophies to all those who are successful, so you will have a wonderful photo opportunity to keep – you’re picture with the first ever tae kwon do champion, an original tae kwon do pioneer.
NATIONAL TEAM.

The TAGB team continued its rich vein of form following their victory in Scotland with further wins in the All Ireland tae kwon do championships in Dublin and then winning the WASCO world championships in Sardinia for the third year running!
Our team is now tae kwon do international world champions, Wasco world team champions and Clash of the Titans champion of champions. Well done to you all and a special pat on the back for Andrew Deer, as he is in the final selection for the WTF team representing Great Britain in the 2012 Olympics. Well done Andrew.
BAD BEHAVIOUR

As we all know the five tenets of tae kwon do have to be adhered to at all times and in particular in the competition arena, unfortunately at the recent Welsh championships we had some instances of unacceptable behaviour, not from West Midlands Students, but within the TAGB. Fortunately in the TAGB this is very rare, but when it does raise its ugly head it will not be tolerated, and the offending students will serve a 12 month ban from all competitions.

WEIGH IN
The weigh in for these championships will take place on Friday 10th September at: The Holiday Inn Hotel (on site at the Telford International Centre). It will be open from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. If you cannot make this day there will be a weigh in room at the Centre all day Saturday or failing that you will be weighed/height tested on the area prior to your event. You must register if you are only doing patterns or destruction.

Please review the new weight groups which will apply for this tournament.

OFFICIALS.
Umpires/Referee’s and Team leaders can apply to officiate at this event (see Championship rules on the website). You will need to fill in the form (with a photograph).

SPECTATOR TICKETS.
It is advisable to pre book your spectator tickets before the event, as there are limited seats available at this venue. (2,000 in total). We expect it to sell out quickly!
